London Marathon Update

16th Bermondsey will be helping Southwark District Groups run the Rotherhithe Roundabout water station at mile 11.

We’ve had to make a few changes as this year is the first time that the London Marathon is being run overnight to help ease the amount of traffic disruption that it causes.

So we’ve been busy recharging the reflective tape on our high-viz jackets and making sure the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have had lots of practice staying up all night by taking them on lots of night hikes and telling them ghost stories to stop them nodding off.

The training has really paid off and the children can now hand out water bottles in their sleep.

But why stop there we thought. So, the five best behaved (and most awake) children are going to be given torches with different coloured lights so that runners can easily see which child has their favourite coloured fruit pastel sweets.

OK – It’s An April Fool – But we got you

If you laughed at our April Fool, please consider sponsoring Rod (one of our leaders) who is again running the 2018 London Marathon for 16th Bermondsey. We are an inner-city Scout Group who strive to give a great program of events and take part in our local community doing things like handing out water to the runners in the London Marathon every year (see below).

Rod’s efforts help pay our hall rent and keeps a roof over our heads. Please sponsor him and give him and reward his effort.

16th Bermondsey at the London Marathon

Every year, with the rest of the Southwark District, 16th Bermondsey hand out water at the London Marathon. It’s a long day but great fun. Check out the video below, filmed in 2013, to see us in action. There are dozens more videos on our YouTube Channel.
